[Early in the evening on the 24th, Clara leaves a wrapped gift outside of Sabriel's room. Inside is a handful of sweets Clara's made, a small decorative hair clip, a cup and ball toy, and a little lucky cat charm.
There's also a note at the bottom of the box.
Sabriel, Thought you might like the clip for your hair, to pin it up and out of your face while you're teaching magic. I picked up the little cat charm in Braccia for good luck on the mission. I thought it'd suit you better, since you have your hands full keeping all the adults here in line.
Don't forget to be young every once in a while, and let the rest of us take care of you. Yeah, I gifted you a little toy. Something silly that you can look at and remind yourself to not always put the weight of the entire station on your shoulders.
( he arrives at her room late on the evening of the 29th, well after the furor over gifts has died down. mindful of her magic teapot, he did not bring tea — but he did bring an assortment of leftover goodies from the kitchen, neatly stacked on a plate.
Itachi? [Sabriel's momentarily surprised for a moment- and then she smiles. So he did remember the offer.]
Come in. I'll get some tea ready.
[Perhaps not black tea, given the hour, but she has some herbal varieties as well. Sabriel motions for the small table in the room- one she hastily clears of papers, and books.]
I've been thinking about what we discussed earlier in the month. About studying magic. I've given my arm some time to heal, and I'd like to resume lessons, if it's still a possibility.
Hey. Sorry for texting out of the blue. My name's Gwen. We talked briefly back in Scorpion's Bend. Now that there's a little downtime, I wanted to ask you what you know about the orbs.
Hey. Talked to Viveca about that idea we discussed, seeing if we could have an emergency escape rope in case of disaster. Sounds like as much as Viveca would love to set that up, she isn't sure it's possible. Basically, it's the orbs that do the teleporting, and she doesn't have nearly enough control over any of it. Once we're there, if the orbs aren't satisfied, they won't bring us back. If we all die, that's just more chaos they get to enjoy.
Best she could think of is that Degar might be able to work something with his magic if it got really desperate, but let's just say she didn't sound optimistic about the chances of that working.
Well, I could try sharing Remi's notes with him, but- the station is well protected, and deliberately hard to get to. Given we're trying to seal away the orbs permanently, and make sure no one can reach them...
Well, I can't blame them for taking security seriously.
[ yet another flyer ends up on every orber's door, evidently by the same culprit as last time, except now it's a more colorful display:
the back of the flyer features more details about the play and its characters, and soon enough, an announcement from rita herself goes public, giving more context about the event, which all can sign up for. ]
[This gift was kind of a shot in the dark; knowing absolutely nothing about The Lord of the Rings outside of watching the first movie, he'd simply asked the requisition box for more things related to the same title, hoping to maybe get the sequels. Instead he got something much better - the whole damn novel the movies were based on. Clayton has wrapped up the very thick book and left it in front of Sabriel's room, along with a hastily-scrawled note tucked into the front cover.]
[ jyn is a cleric and with that comes a set of certain expectations. jyn doesn't meet any of them. she's not sweet or meak or even very compassionate; she doles out healing spells with a recalcitrance that speaks to knowing how to triage. she will send off anyone that isn't in dire straits because they can bandage it or push through it and she isn't wasting finite magic on what she considers injuries that don't necessitate healing. suck it up.
mostly, jyn is a whirling dervish of violence in the fray, twin truncheons (not hers from home and that's a disappointment) striking beasts and creatures with brute force. despite her diminutive size, jyn is a force to be reckoned with and that force swings a truncheon into a creature with a squelching crunch of bones the sprays her and maybe sabriel with a burst of blue blood, thin and watery. jyn seems unphased as the creature crumples to the ground in front of the both of them. ]
Are you alright? [ a check in, in the middle of battle, as one does, eyes flickering down to sabriel's midsection. jyn may be the one handing out these healing spells but it's clear she doesn't trust them to keep. ]
[Sabriel had planned to stay out of the fight, but then... well that stopped being an option. She moves in with her sword, striking with brutal grace and lopping off limbs. There's an economy of movement in her sword work- no fancy flourishes, just a lot of moving her sword too fast for her opponents to react until they're already wounded.
Her free hand is busy too, sending out bolts of magical force at anything that approaches but stays beyond the reach of her blade.]
I'm fine! The spells did their work!
[Strike, stab parry, bringing up her blade to block an attack before striking in retaliation, electricity crackling over her sword.]
