My partner and I are going out of town for a few days and I was wondering if you could watch the cat while we're gone. I'll pay you.

I will! And I'll be by to drop Leon (that's his name) off on Thursday if that's cool. I'll bring his food too so you don't have to worry about that. He likes walks, but he likes to chase rabbits and squirrels too so if he's a pain in the ass about it don't take him.

I don't know where he came from. I think one of my ancestors bound some Free magic thing and kept him as a cat instead of sticking him in a bottle. It must have happened a long time ago- Father didn't know where he came from, and the binding on his collar seemed ancient.]

I don't know where Leon came from either. One morning I woke up and there he was. He could be a Free magic monster. We don't know.

Is there a way to find out?

Because if he was you'd be dead by now. Their substance is inimical to life, they tend to kill and maim any living things- including humans- they encounter in various painful ways if they don't enslave them- so you'd either be dead, missing a few limbs, or little more than a puppet. Also, they reek of hot metal and dislike keeping a fixed form.

Besides, there's no magic native to this world. So unless he's secretly an imPort, he's just an ordinary cat.

That is so disappointing. Having some evil hellbeast would be so cool.

Do you think he might be an imPort? Does that happen to animals?

Only because dealing with them isn't your job. It's part of mine, in my world.

There have been animal imPorts before. Sometimes the Porter lets them turn into humans, as it does with AI. But it's not common. The only one I can think of at the moment is Komasan.

I guess so. I had to deal with morons in my world. That wasn't very much fun.

What? It turns animals in humans? AI? How many AI are here? What's a Komasan?

Well, it sounds pleasantly dull and not particularly dangerous, at least. Better than my responsibilities back home.

Komasan is... I'm not entirely sure what Komasan is. I think he's some sort of talking dog. And I'm not sure if it happens to every AI, but I've known several who've arrived in human bodies.
