You may already be aware that I am running to serve as the new imPort Ambassador in Maurtia Falls. I won't ask you anything that might impugn your impartiality as an agent of law enforcement, but there is a matter that has weighed on my mind.

Certain conversations on the Network from the time of the Occupation could cast me in a most... unflattering light, if taken out of context by my enemies. If that transpires, I would feel far more at ease if I could count on you being willing to set the record straight: that I was not myself at the time, and that the Soviet influence has been banished from my mind.

If anyone raises that as an issue, I'd be happy to clarify. The last thing I want is people being blamed for things that aren't their fault.

That's the last thing most of us want, I would think. Regardless, it is pleasing to hear that I can depend on you. Thank you once again, Sabriel.

While I have you on the line, I would also be interested to learn what other thoughts you may have on our current political situation.

I think one thing we need to focus on is maintaining good ties with the local citizens- imPorts shouldn't act like they're above the law just because they find it inconvenient.

Also, while I have... concerns about our hosts, I think we should follow the example of the previous group of imPorts- find allies in the government and military, and work with them to push reforms and calm paranoia.

Yes, our predecessors set a most inspiring example for us, didn't they? They proved that reform is possible, and that the authorities can be challenged. It is unfortunate that so many of the records from that time are sealed and censored. It is difficult to follow an example that one cannot properly study.

Rest assured that promoting order and cooperation will be a part of my platform. I would not be participating in this process if I did not think the system was worth working within. But I must note that it may be challenging to address the many concerns imPorts have with our gracious hosts, without arousing some controversy with the native citizens. The civilians get their information from the media, and the media tends to be quite... supportive to those in power.

Perhaps that's another area where we should seek out friends, then?

There's too much paranoia, even when you take into account that the concern about spies wasn't unfounded.

Perhaps so. I don't suppose you know of any sympathetic journalists, do you? Ones with the platform and credibility to dissent?

Unfortunately, I don't. That doesn't mean they don't exist though- just that we'll need to put effort in to seeking them out.

I admire your attitude. We should not fear challenges, regardless of how great the obstacles in our path. And effort is one thing I can promise no shortage of, if I am elected Ambassador.

I would be honoured to have the support of a hero as accomplished as you in my campaign, Sabriel. Tell me, what else would you like to see from the new Ambassador for Maurtia Falls?
